We’re thrilled to have a rare, gorgeous American classic piano in our showroom: a 5’ 4” Mid-Century Mason & Hamlin model B baby grand, lovingly and meticulously restored.

Because of the demand by music institutions for larger performance instruments, Mason & Hamlin, like Steinway, built far fewer baby grands than their larger models. But they were every bit as “overbuilt” as their siblings with the hallmark full-perimeter cast iron plate, the patented metal “Spider” Crown Retention System tension-resonator, extra thick rim, and wide-bodied tail. This 5’ 4” piano performs more like a much larger conservatory grand.

In addition to satisfying the needs of a talented pianist, these smaller grands were also intended to showcase the sophistication and good taste of the homeowner — the furniture details were very important.

Notice the understated carved details at the top of each leg, along with the crown molding, bevels, and old-style brass leg cups. Add the tapered pedal lyre with decorative carved spindles, the walnut damper caps, and the flowing curves of the music desk – and that veneer! That ribbon-striped tiger mahogany veneer is very rare these days.

As you can see, the finish has been beautifully restored in a lacquer satin luster. The soundboard too, was refinished after the piano was partially rebuilt. The new strings, tuning pins, and hammers bring a refreshed voice that will last for decades. Finally, the original ebony and ivory keytops have been preserved and are in near perfect condition.

Please contact the store if you desire more details about this lovely piano.

We welcome trade ins. Please bring brand, serial number and pictures. Measure space and bring room pictures for best acoustical placement recommendations.
